Tesla SSD Albany is a highly strategic, freestanding build-to-suit development located along Central Avenue, one of Albany’s primary commercial corridors. The project redevelops the former Maywood Elementary School site into a modern Tesla Sales, Service, and Delivery (SSD) facility, reinforcing Tesla’s limited and highly regulated presence in New York State. 

The development encompasses approximately 5.75 acres and features prefabricated tilt-up wall construction, delivering a contemporary, efficient facility with flexibility for a future outlot. The site’s visibility and access along Central Avenue position it as a key regional hub for Tesla customers throughout the Capital Region. 

The project faced significant political and political opposition during the entitlement process. Through extensive community outreach—including direct engagement with 78 surrounding households—the development team successfully addressed concerns and built local support. These efforts resulted in a unanimous positive recommendation from both the Planning Board and Village Board, a notable achievement given the regulatory environment.

Tesla SSD Albany is one of only five Tesla sales licenses issued in the State of New York, making it an exceptionally rare and high-impact development. Its successful navigation of political, regulatory, and community challenges underscores the project’s importance and the strength of its execution.
